The Michigan Dental Association proudly presents Sports Dentistry: Mouth Guards for Protection and Other Uses in the Dental Office (Lecture and Participation). RC #5 8:30 am - 4:30 pm at the Cobo Conference and Exhibit Center in Detroit, Michigan. Limited to 30 participants. In the morning session, history and development of the mouthguard will be discussed along with wearability, fabrication, and various types of mouthguards. Some of the auxiliary uses for the mouthguard will be discussed, including: new multi-layer and multi-colored mouthguards; the diagnostic splint for TMJ problems; prevention of "burners" in football players; prevention of ringing tinnitus of the ears; prevention of snoring; prevention of trauma to massive porcelain restorations; touch sticks for the disabled.The afternoon session will be spent fabricating the various appliances. Each participant is asked to bring a stone cast of his or her own upper arch. The cast should include the teeth and "gums" (horseshoe with no palate or stonecap).
