Mel Choy graduated from Northwestern Dental School in Chicago, Illinois in 1972. He began his private practice in Hawaii that same year and has been engaged in general practice there ever since. Over the years Dr. Choy has served with the Hawaii Dental Association in several capacities. He is a former board director of the Hawaii Dental Service, a Delta Dental

company. Dr. Choy is a member of the Academy for Sports Dentistry since 1997 and is founder and president of the Hawaii Academy for Sports Dentistry. You may also access HASD directly by clicking this hyperlink. He is the State Coordinator of Project Mouthguard Hawaii, a statewide mouthguard program. Dr. Choy is Chairman for the Donated Dental Services Advisory Committee; a National Foundation of Dentistry for the Handicapped program. He has given numerous lectures and courses and written several articles on sports dentistry. Private hands-on mouthguard fabrication courses are available for anyone visiting Hawaii in need of CE (continuing education) credits. The doctor is an avid sports participant in masters (55 or older) softball, basketball and tennis as well as an enthusiastic sports fan. Dr. Choy boasts one of the largest baseball card collections in Hawaii, a 45 year accumulation of close to one million baseball cards. His son is expected to graduate from the University of Missouri at Kansas City Dental School in 2006.
